The young generation has always had a way of making their own statements about who they are. The clothes they wear, the words they use, and the music they listen to are just a few ways they have chosen to do this. Today's generation is no different than any other. An added facet to their identity is the jewelry they wear. The marketing of certain types of jewelry to the youth of the world is booming. In the 70's the big thing was gold chains and gaudy gold pendants. Men loved this look with a shirt opened down the chest. It was the Staying Alive era. It lasted for about as long as the life of disco. The more Gothic jewelry trend started in the 80's when rock icons like Madonna and others began wearing multiple necklaces and bracelets of all kinds. Large cross pendants and any other emblem of significance could be seen. Rings of every description, skulls, crosses, and hearts, graced their fingers. This type of jewelry was and still is worn by lots of bikers as well. There are still followers of the Gothic look with a few new items added. The piercing of the eye brow, tongue and nose are the newest thing with this group. It is not appealing to everyone, but with those that do like it, like it a lot. This jewelry like any other is made from different metals, silver tones is the most desired. The more recent rap and hip hop industry has spawned a whole new jewelry era among the avid listeners of this music. It is called bling, or in a more understandable term, really glitzy jewelry. It really started in the 90's, but is still as popular as ever and growing all the time. Platinum, sterling silver and gold rope chains in all sizes are all the rage. Diamonds have made their mark as well. Diamond stud earrings are worn in one or both ears. LED belt buckles are really new. They are programmable and light up just like a neon sign. Well actually, that is what they are, but you wear them. Whether the new trend of wearing grillz on your teeth is considered jewelry or not could be debatable, but it sure looks like jewelry. They are like braces with glitz. They can have lots of stones, real or fake and the metal they are made of can be rhodium plated, platinum, gold or silver style. You may have heard of gold teeth in the past and they are still around, but now some are adding diamonds, even in their real teeth. And all the other past generations thought they were the original ones!
