Although terracotta pots are frost resistant and can withstand freezing cold temperatures, the correct care needs to be taken in order to ensure that this doesn't happen. This is due to the water freezing and expanding and then consequently causing the pots to crack and break. Another way to protect your terracotta pots during the winter months is to place plastic planters inside the pots so they can be removed during the cold weather. This way the terracotta pots can be easily moved to frost free areas which guarantees that they will not break. Once it starts warming up you can then easily put the plants back in the pots and add them to your contemporary garden design.

Due to its natural elements terracotta pots may start to create a whitish dust over time. This is due to the salts within the clay that sometimes seep through the glaze and exterior surface. Although this is normal you can wipe away the salts if you don't like the look it gives or simply leave it for the rain to wash away.

You may wish to change your contemporary garden design over time or simply want to rearrange your garden. As terracotta pots are fairly lightweight this is easy enough to do but care must be taken when doing so. If your pots are large it is sensible to ask someone to help you move them because you may drop and break them. Do not roll them on their feet because this will cause damage to the rims and put extra weight on them which could cause them to break off.
