Tackling Linen Closet Organization Are there some secrets hiding behind your linen closet door? You may have your house organized from top to bottom, but you could have a mess in your linen closet. But here are some tips which you can follow to keep your linen closet in good shape. First, check to see if you need everything. Look at what be may be stuffed inside your linen closet - bath towels and bathrobes, washcloths, hand towels and even holiday beach towels. If you can do some weeding, go ahead and recycle those other hand towels or donate them to charity. You need room in your closet! Once you have gotten rid of these towels and washcloths you should already have more space. Be sure that the bath towels and washcloths you do keep are the ones that most match your bathroom decorating scheme. After you've gotten yourself a sensible amount of towels to start arranging, you can. You need to be sure to examine them closely first. If there are some towels that just don't look right, whose color has faded, you might want to toss them or make other use of them, like as a pet towel. If your bath towels and hand towels look OK, you need to start stacking them. The best way to organize your towels is to do it by size, which means the washcloths will be the smallest, followed by the hand towels, the bath towels, the holiday beach towels and the scotch beach towels. Some people have their beach towels stored elsewhere, but if you want to keep those scotch beach towels in your hall linen closet or in the bathroom, that's up to you. The other things in the linen closet should also be examine. A lot of time, you end up having things like candlesticks, doilies, napkins and other decorative 'stuff' in that closet. Make sure that they find a home somewhere else in the house. You will have to fold all of the other linen in the closet. You need to make sure you stack them carefully. Some of these items, like body wraps or tablecloths may be a little unwieldy at first. You need to figure out if these fit into your linen closet first, then you need to fit them into the stack the right way. Another item which may or may not fit into your linen closet plan is a bathrobe. While these often are bought as part of the set of bathroom linen, they are usually better served to be hung up in your closet with the rest of your clothes. Some people ever hang them in the coat closet! If you have a hot tube or a pool, you should hang them near those places, because those might be the places where they are more often used. The same can be said of body wraps which are used to dry up after a trip to the pool, spa or hot tube. Remember those extra towels that you decided to use for something else, like the pet towels, or kitchen rags? If you are really committed to organizing, you need to make sure those towels aren't thrown sloppily into a corner. They are still a reflection of how well organized your household is. So you should stack those under the sink or in the garage. All in all, these linen closets disasters can be tamed with a good plan and a tough eye at what belongs where and if it meets your standards for the kind of linen you want to use regularly.
